Last Friday (02.15.2019) was held the Franco-Tunisian Economic Forum at the Senate in Paris in which we were partner. Review of the event and the speech of David VERMEERSCH, our Maghreb Director, at the round table "Priority projects in the transport sector" with Mr Hichem BEN AHMED, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tunisia.
The objective of the forum was to build a "partnership for the future". It is a follow-up of the first forum held in Tunis on February 1st 2018, on the occasion of the visit of the President of the French Republic, Mr Emmanuel Macron. The ambition of the forum: to further strengthen economic and trade ties between the two countries, at a time when Tunisia's economic recovery is being confirmed.
On this occasion, David Vermeersch (Director Maghreb of Bansard International), took part in the round table "Priority projects in the transport sector" with Hichem BEN AHMED, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tunisia, George SERRE, Institutional Advisor of CMA-CGM & Montassar DRAIEF, Director North, West & Central Africa, SYSTRA.
David Vermeersch notes a positive evolution and a good dynamism in Tunisia. Tunisia is a place of production and stock for French companies. Also, there is an ongoing improvement on decongestion. Nevertheless, David draws attention to areas for improvement such as customs regulations and dematerialization. Indeed, some procedures still exist in Tunisia and are no longer relevant in Europe, which has the effect of slowing down fluidity. Finally, David Vermeersch concluded by sharing the ambition of the Bansard International group in Tunisia since the company's establishment in 2014.
The round table was also an opportunity to listen to Mr Hichem BEN AHMED, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tunisia, who mentioned new infrastructure projects such as the deepwater port at Enfidha which will facilitate trade (€1 billion project), the increase in capacity of Tunis International Airport and the new quays at the port of Rades which should help to reduce congestion.
We have had the opportunity to see a minister who is very available and attentive to the concerns of businesses.
