The place of women in the transportation sector:

Today in the transport sector the place of women is still unimportant, the latter representing only 19% of the workforce (39% for the supply chain as a whole.)

Despite this figure, the proportion of women in the sector tends to increase slightly every year in comparison with other sectors. Companies evolve, mores too. But not only, infrastructure too. With the evolution of technology, we are seeing a modernization of tools to manage supply chain processes. Today with robotization and the digitization of tasks, what used to be considered a "human" job due to the physical aspect of the tasks requested, is no longer true at all. The transport sector has therefore modernized, but on the other hand, the parity of the workforce has taken time to balance. Fortunately, this gap is filling up more and more over the years.

Companies are making efforts to attract more women to supply chain executive, management and leadership positions. With an eye on diversity and predominant inclusion, they really focus on some of the supply chain jobs well aware that there is still room for improvement.

A study called “Attracting and retaining women in the transportation industry” carried out by Jodi Godfrey and Robert L. Bertini published in February 2019, identified the needs and actions to be taken by companies, including :

  • Change cultural values, orientation and behavior in terms of leadership
  • Increase the visibility of women in the sector
  • Promote the key roles of women in the sector
  • Communicate, promote and sponsor ambitions, vocations
  • Propose a suitable work / family policy.

Finally, what has been achieved in certain areas is still being worked on for transport and there is still some effort to be made in order to succeed in reducing the disparities that may exist between the sexes. On a positive note, the vast majority of transport players today apply all of these points and affirm their desire to increase the share of women in their workforce, in order to have a business in the image of modern society.

The place of women in the Bansard International group:

The Bansard International group is on average made up of 44% women worldwide, with, let us note, a clear higher percentage for Bansard China which employs 69% women including 12 managers and agency directors. At Bansard International, the proportion of women is higher in qualified positions, whether at the level of supervisors, sales positions, agency directors than at operational positions. The group's recent gender equality agreements testify to the desire to reduce inequalities over time and allow everyone to apply for the same position while aspiring to the same salary. As the group is aware of the strength represented by women, this is an important shift negotiated by the various country human resources departments.

Obviously there is a long way to go before being able to claim perfect equity, but it is a fast-moving process which constitutes one of the priorities of the Bansard group, women being vital elements in the good balance of the group while whole, in Europe, Asia or even America. This is why we would like to thank them all, and highlighting them may be more than a day a year.
